John Charles is a dynamic leader known for his ability to connect with youth and adults alike. As a Board member of SriPonya Collective, he spearheaded the launch of the Youth Program in Warm Springs, earning admiration for his deep rapport with students and parents.
Raised in poverty-stricken East Palo Alto, John faced early adversity, losing his father to addiction. Inspired by his struggles, he pursued football as a path to a better future, becoming an All-American athlete. His passion for the sport extended into leadership, founding The AirOne Football Academy to mentor student-athletes in Portland and Vancouver, Washington.
Driven by his life experiences, John dedicates himself to supporting marginalized youth, especially those grappling with substance use and mental health challenges. He has extensive experience working with incarcerated youth and holds certifications as a Certified Recovery Mentor and Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) practitioner.
John also serves his community through public service roles, including the Budget Committee in Prineville, Oregon, and the CLEAR Alliance advisory team. Additionally, he is the proud owner and producer of John John’s Barbecue Sauce, sold in over 20 stores.
John earned a BS in Psychology from Portland State University and an AA in Psychology from Foothill Junior College. His accolades include induction into the Portland State Football Hall of Fame as a Quarterback in 2018, serving as an Atlanta Falcons Free Agent Quarterback in 1993, and playing for the San Jose Sabercats in 1996. In 1993, he received the prestigious Jefferson Award for public service.
